Kinja'd!!!

I’m one week in. Primary goal being to cut body fat, secondary goal being a blanket “feel healthier”

It’s really interesting to actually look at how much you’re getting from your food. If I just showed the left column, most people would see “10 eggs, 1.5 pounds of sweet potatoes, almost a pound of brocolli” and think that it was a TON of food. However add in the far right column, and you see that the total number of calories is only 2300. That’s not much. For comparison, a Large p epperoni pizza from pizza hut has 2700 calories.

And while I could easily eat the pizza in an hour while reading or watching Netflix, if I attempted the same with the total amount of food in my chart (400 calories less than the pizza) I’d be puking. And I’m trying to LOSE weight!

For a lot of athletes in my weight range, they would be looking at 50 00+ calories per day when trying to reach their e quilibrium, neither losing or gaining weight. That number is all but impossible to reach eating clean, which is why 99% of the top athletes, be them Olympic gymnasts, geared-up bodybuilders, or crossfit champs do not in fact eat clean. They need to supplement their base diet (which is generally wha t you would consider clean eating, and t ailored for them to meet nutrient goals) with so called “dirty” food in order to meet caloric goals.

Bit off-topic, but this stuff interests me. Okay, back to the plan.

I’ll be weighing myself twice and day and averaging that number to track weight over time. I’ll also be getting my body composition scanned every three weeks, because a DEXA scanner is an incredibly powerful tool that provides a huge number of helpful data points to help you manage your health, accurately measuring not just body fat and muscle mass, but bone mass, bone age, muscle distribution and a number of other things. Should be interesting! I go in next week for the first scan.

I see a few issues with the diet above, with a lack of vitamin D and an overabundance of Vitamin A being the biggest red flags. Vitamin D will likely need to be taken care of via supplements (curse you Washington) but vitamin A.... Well. If I do start building u p too much in my body, the solution is to just cut sweet potatoes for a week or so and find a suitable replacement. Bet you’ve never heard of sweet potato cycling....

I’m also thinking I should lower protein, and raise carbs a bit, but I’m going to wait for the two week mark before even considering making a change. I'll get some tests done to see what other nutrients I may be low on after a few weeks with the program.

Anyways, those are my Easter thoughts. A friend invited me over to work on his 4runner and cook some grub, so I'll be making some bomb sweet potato fries, and grilling up some chicken. Woo-hoo!

I wish I cared about this stuff. My form of exercise is mowing the lawn and walking the dog . My dietary plan is directly affected by how much beer is left in the fridge.

I got into it because dorky, 6ft 130lb teen me wanted some female attention. Somewhere along the way it became a passion.

Now if t he pizza I had in San Francisco when picking up the V70, and the sour beer I had in Portland with all of you were both local... Things might be different

No corn dogs no care.

But seriously I have known several buff dudes that do this diet, usually a crap ton of brown rice and chicken breast coupled with some MAX MUSCLE drink or something like that. Seems to work. I just like real food too much.

One of the reasons why weight watchers is effective for me is because it gives you 0 point foods that you can eat. Fruits veggies chicken breasts eggs 0 fat yogurt mean I don't go to bed hungry and can still lose weight.

10 eggs a day? Those are rookie numbers!

That brings up an interesting point. With the assumption that they’d both have the same caloric value, t hose 0 point foods will keep you satiated long after your average “dirty foods”. So.... For most people that would mean less calories.

Is there a limit to the 0 point foods or could you potentially eat as much as you want and still stay on plan? I'm a big pineapple fan, and have been known to eat one every other day when trying to gain weight...

Oh nice! I don’t have the mind or attention for this, at least not at the moment. At peak cycling season, I’m usually averaging 30mi and some 1000-1400cals a day.

Is this just a diet? Any workouts too?

I feel ya. I’m trying to set it up as simple as possible so when I do get back to being super busy it’s still doable.

Yep, workouts are about 70/30 bodybuilding/powerlifting influenced, with nighttime handbalancing on days I feel like I've got more energy

They say within reason but when I’ve gone on big pushes to lose weight 30+ lbs every year and a half or so in addition to eating normal foods I’ll usually eat 1 apple 1 orange 2 cups cantaloupe for breakfast, carrots and peppers for lunch and dinner is grapes and watermelon and broccoli. I’m taking in a ton of fruit and veggies which can get expensive but I've always lost weight.  For me it goes in waves so at one point I was 245 then down to 215, back up to 230 down to 200, up to 210 down to 185, up to 200. I normally gain half the weight back after a big loss. I'm still happy with that though.

I miss having vanilla protein powder. Mixing it in with orange juice for an orange Creamsicle shake was so bomb.

Is that for every day? I couldnt imagine eating the same thing over and over. And that is a fuckton of eggs haha, I can barely eat 2 or 3 eggs in the morning, just not that interested in eating much before running out the door to head to work. Plus just trying to cook that many sounds annoying. I pretty much only like runny yolks so over easy or sunnyside up are the way to go, although soft boiled is pretty good too if I could try that sometime.

I enjoy food too much to bother with a diet. I have also found that I can eat 4000 calories of korean bbq and see no change lol. Maybe some day it will catch up with me but then I just need to stick to a more regular excercise schedule and probably just eat less stuff. Its generally just a calories in vs calories out equation anyways.
